LONDON: The Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme will be made available to foreign spouses of Malaysians from next Tuesday.
Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said this was approved in the last Cabinet meeting.
She said her ministry and the Immigration Department would study the terms and conditions for these applicants.
Once approved, they would get a 10-year visa like any other MM2H participants, she said.
“Like other MM2H participants, they will be subjected to all the conditions.
“However, they will not be entitled to the duty- free car as enjoyed by other MM2H participants whereby both are foreigners,” Dr Ng told the media upon arrival at Heathrow Airport yesterday morning for a three-day official visit here.
There are 13,317 MM2H participants from 2002 to last year.
On another matter, Dr Ng said: “A clean and green Malaysia” would be her ministry’s focus this year.
Under the theme “Think Tourism, Act Tourism, 1Malaysia Clean, 1Malaysia Green” she said: “It is all about no littering, clean hawker centres, clean taxis and so on.”
Dr Ng said the Cabinet Committee on Tourism chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on Monday also decided to set up a task force to promote parks and gardens in Malaysia as a new tourism product.
“This is set to be a major new economic growth as we are going to look at it as a whole component,” she said.
Dr Ng said parks and gardens were a major tourist attraction overseas and they enjoyed many repeat tourists, especially from retirees and nature lovers.

Long-standing housing woes still unresolved

HOUSEBUYERS of the stalled Majestic Heights Phase 2A project in Penang are complaining that their long-standing woes have been given scant attention by the authorities.
Its ad-hoc committee chairman Neoh Hong Lee said they had met with the relevant authorities more than 20 times but the issue had remained unresolved since 1998.
“It has been almost 16 years since we signed the sales and purchase agreement. But until now, chances of us moving into our homes are still bleak.
“We really hope the autho- rities will look seriously into our plight,” he said during a press conference at his house in Jelutong on Friday.
The project, called Majestic Plaza, comprises 342 apartments, 22 light industrial lots and six lock-up shops. It was 75% completed and was expected to be ready by early 1998.
Neoh said the ad-hoc committee, formed in 1998, was representing two-thirds of the 370 housebuyers.
He said the committee had been meeting regularly and had met with representatives from the Local Government and Housing Ministry and the liquidator as well as both the previous and current state governments.
However, Neoh said the revival plan as promised by the relevant authorities turned out to be just empty promises.
He said many housebuyers who could not move into their dream homes had received legal letters from financial institutions for failing to service their loans, adding that many were unable to cope, having to service the loans and pay rental on their present homes.
Launched in 1995, the Majestic Heights project, consisting of 2,955 housing units, 55 shoplots and 22 light industrial units, is the country’s largest single abandoned housing project.
The project hit a snag when the developer faced financial problems in 1998.
Several attempts to reach state Town and Country Planning, Housing and Arts Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai were unsuccessful.

SunCity launches RM47 million Sunway Aspera in Penang

PENANG: Sunway City Bhd (SunCity) has unveiled its latest residential development in Penang called Sunway Aspera with an estimated gross development value of RM47 million.
The freehold development comprises 76 units of 2-storey and nine units of 3-storey terraced homes in a relaxing seaside environment in Sungai Batu, Penang. The lot sizes are 20ft by 60 ft and 20ft by 65ft for the 2-storey terraced and 22ft by 70ft for 3-storey terraced houses. Prices start from RM495,000. Some 40% of the units have been sold since the official launch of the first phase in March.
“The launch of Sunway Aspera is another addition to our portfolio of properties in Penang and we intend to solidify our presence here further with new launches in the future,” said SunCity’s managing director of property development Ho Hon Sang in a statement on Friday May 7.
Sunway Aspera follows the success of the Group’s well-received development, Sunway Bukit Gambier which comprises of 3-storey courtyard homes, 3-storey semi-detached homes and 3-storey bungalows in Bukit Gelugor, Penang.
The group has been building properties in Penang since 1992 with the Seberang Jaya township, which comprised 3-storey shop offices while the first residential project was Sunway Tunas in Bayan Baru comprising 2-storey terraced houses and commercial shop houses.
